İngilizce hikaye “Aladdin and the magic lamp (Alaaddin’in sihirli lambası)”

Most of you must have heard the tale of Aladdin and the magic lamp. It is a wonderful story popular across all age groups. The story goes like this:-

Once upon a time there lived a poor boy named Aladdin. The boy lived in utter poverty. His father was long gone and his mother struggled to make ends meet. But one fine day, an old man came to his house and claimed that he is Aladdin’s uncle. The boy had never seen his uncle. The uncle was generous enough to provide Aladdin with good clothes and a tour to the city. He wanted the boy to work for him for which Aladdin’s mother agreed believing that uncle will take good care of the kid. But the uncle was actually a wicked magician who wanted to use the boy’s services for his own benefits.

The magician took Aladdin to a mountain and mumbled some incomprehensible words that Aladdin could not understand. All of a sudden the ground beneath them opened and the boy was afraid. But the wily old man assured him that nothing wrong will happen to him if he follows the instruction of the magician. He told Aladdin to pass through the tunnel at the end of which he will come across three ways. The magician wanted the boy to take the right direction where he will come across a garden. In the centre of the garden, there would be a glowing lamp. Aladdin was instructed to put off the light, remove the oil from it and bring the lamp back to the old magician. Magician also told the boy not to touch anything in the way.

Aladdin didn’t know anything about the lamp and why the magician wanted it but he did what he was told and brought back the lamp. But on his way back, he had pocketed some shiny fruits that he had never seen before. When magician saw Aladdin with the lamp he gave a wicked smile and reached out his hand to take the lamp but Aladdin was smart enough to ask magician to pull him out first. Sly old man refused to pull him up and as a result of that Aladdin too refused to give the lamp. The magician got angry and closed in the opening of the tunnel and left Aladdin beneath the ground.

Aladdin felt helpless and started crying. He didn’t know where to go and whom to ask for help. Then all of a sudden his hand rubbed the lamp by mistake and out came a genie. Aladdin couldn’t believe his eyes and was really scared. But the genie bowed to him and said in a booming voice, “You are my master and I will do anything you command”. The boy was still confused. Though, quite apprehensive, he asked the genie to take him home and before he knew it, he was with his mother. Aladdin was delirious with joy. He narrated the entire incident to his mother who was totally baffled. The boy commanded genie to bring forth fruits and food. Both Aladdin and his mother were extremely happy and they kept fulfilling their wishes for next few years.

As Aladdin grew up to become a young, handsome man, he fell in love with the daughter of the king, Jasmine. His mother presented precious gifts to the king. The king was impressed with the magnanimous gifts and agreed to give his daughter in marriage. The genie arranged for a grand palace for the newlywed couple the like of which was never seen before. The news of the majestic palace spread to all corners of the kingdom. The old magician also heard of the news and decided to snatch back the lamp. In an evil move, he took a cart full of new lamps shouting new for old. Aladdin was not present at home and Jasmine was not aware of the value of the old lamp. By mistake, she exchanged it for a new one and the moment magician got hold of the lamp he ordered genie to transport the palace and the princess to Africa.

Aladdin made it his mission to retrieve his princess and the lamp back. He set out for Africa and fought tooth and nail with the magician. He was ably supported by the flying carpet and his beloved monkey pet. Fighting against all odds, he managed to defeat the magician and killed him. He got hold of the lamp and ordered genie to send him, jasmine and the palace back to the original place. Thereafter all three of them including his mother lived happily ever after.
